[IKE24-28]【Cycling While Using a Phone or After Drinking Alcohol is Against Law!!】
Fatal or serious injury accidents, caused by use of smartphones while riding a bicycle, have been increasing.
The Road Traffic Act has been revised.

①Using a smartphone while cycling is prohibited.
It is prohibited to ride a bicycle with a smartphone in your hand talking over it or looking at the screen.
It is OK to use it when you are stopped.
The penalties are:
Using a phone while cycling: Up to 6 months in prison or a 100,000 yen fine.
Using a phone while cycling and posing a danger to traffic: Up to one year in prison or a 300,000 yen fine.

②Cycling under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.
Riding drunk is prohibited regardless of the amount of alcohol you have taken.
Also, you should not lend your bicycle to anyone who has had alcohol beforehand.
Offering alcohol to those who are likely to ride a bicycle afterwards, or riding on the back of a bicycle driven by a drunk will also be subject to penalties.
The penalties are:
Cycling drunk: Up to 3 years in prison or a 500,000 yen fine.
Lending a bicycle to a drunk cyclist: Up to 3 years in prison or a 500,000 yen fine.
Offering alcohol or riding with a drunk cyclist: Up to 2 years in prison or a 300,000 yen fine.
