[IKE24-20]【Sending Your Child to Nursery School or Kindergarten】
In Japan, children aged 6 are supposed to enter elementary school in April.
Younger children can go to nursery school (for 0 to 6 years old) or kindergarten (for 3 to 6 years old).

Most children in Japan attend nursery school or kindergarten before entering elementary school.
If you are raising a child in Japan, why not consider sending your child to either one?

Here’s a leaflet explaining nurseries and kindergartens in multi-languages.

If you wish to send your child to nursery or kindergarten from next April, you need to make an application within a specified period starting around October.
We recommend visiting the nursery or kindergarten of your choice before applying.

Application deadlines vary depending on where you live, so please check with your municipal office.

If you need an interpreter, please contact “Multilingual Support Center Kanagawa” prior to your visits.
You can use our telephone interpreting service free of charge.

※Nursery fees become free, starting from April 1st after the child’s 3rd birthday.
Kindergarten fees are free if the child enrolls after his/her 3rd birthday. (At some kindergartens, fees are free up to 25,700 yen per month.)
