Do you know the cost of studying at a university in Japan from enrollment to graduation?
Studying for 4 years at a Japanese university would cost about 4 to 6 million yen for private universities and about 2.5million yen for national/public universities (excluding medical/pharmaceutical faculties).
University entrance examination:
Examination Fee (15,000-35,000 yen per university ※The total cost is determined by the number of university exams to take)
Enrollment:
Admission fee and tuition (for 6 months): 500,000 to 1,000,000 yen
Needs to be paid by due date upfront for enrollment.
Total amount required for the 1st year of university on average:
Humanities faculties at private univ. (about 1,150,000 yen), Science faculties at private univ. (about 1,500,000 yen),
Public univ. (about 940,000 yen), National univ. (about 820,000 yen).
Example of fees required before entering a university:
Preparatory school (50,000 yen to 100,000 yen/month)
● Scholarship System
JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) provides scholarships that are most popular in Japan and many university students receive.
Eligibility depends on your residential status, so please confirm details at your high school.
JASSO’s scholarships come in the form of “loans” which need to be paid back, or in the form of “grants” which do not need to be repaid.
※ Applicants for “grants” are screened not only based on their academic achievements.
You will be eligible if you are highly motivated and your household income is lower than a certain level.
When you are in the 3rd year of senior high school, check with your school on when to apply for the scholarship.
Please note that the scholarship money will be paid after you have enrolled in university.
Even if you become qualified for the scholarship early on, you cannot use it to pay for the admission fee.
