Naturalization is to obtain Japanese nationality.
For an individual of foreign nationality to obtain Japanese nationality, you need to apply for naturalization.
・As dual citizenship is not recognized in Japan, the individual must abandon the nationality of his/her country of birth.
・If the applying individual is 15 years of age or over, the individual will need to present himself/herself to the Legal Affairs Bureau to submit the application. If the applying individual is under 15, a legal representative, such as the person with parental authority, will need to do so in his/her place.
・Documents such as a birth certificate will also be required for application.
・Necessary documents differ according to the individual. Please consult the Legal Affairs Bureau beforehand.
