[IKE23-36]【New Series of Japanese Banknotes】: Japan’s newly-designed banknotes will be issued on July 3, 2024.
Old-design notes can still be used, too.

The new banknotes have the following new features:
・When tilted, the faces printed on the banknotes will look like they are moving as the angle changes.
・The numbers indicating the face value of the banknotes are in raised printing, so visually impaired people can recognize the denominations by touch.
・The numbers on the banknotes are larger and easier to read for everyone.

The portraits on the banknotes will be renewed as well.
・10,000-yen bill： Eiichi Shibusawa, who founded Japan’s first bank and started a large number of companies.
・5,000-yen bill：Umeko Tsuda, the first Japanese woman to study abroad in the US.
・1,000-yen bill：Shibasaburo Kitasato, a specialist in the study of bacteria.
