A new residence management system was introduced on July 9, 2012. Medium- and long-term residents must apply for the resident card within three years of that date. (Children under 16 years of age may apply either within three years or when they become 16 years old, whichever comes first.) Application must be made at the regional immigration office. Inquiry can be made at the contact point shown below.
