[IKE17-42]Don't drink and drive / traffic accidents
In Japan, driving a car or riding a bicycle after drinking alcohol is prohibited by law.
Serving alcohol to someone known to be driving home, loaning a car to someone who has been drinking,
or riding in car driven by a driver who has been drinking are all punishable.

It is important to be aware that food may contain or have been prepared using alcohol.
To be on the safe side, it is better to avoid eating such food when driving.

Riding a bicycle after drinking is also prohibited.
December is the month when most traffic accidents occur, so please be careful.

If you have a traffic accident:

1. If there is a serious injury, call an ambulance by dialing 119 or go and see a doctor on your own.
2. Call the police. The number is 110.
3. Confirm the name, address, phone number and license plate number of the other party.
4. Give the details of the accident to the police.
5. If you see a doctor, request a medical certificate (shindansho).
Whether your injury is minor or serious, you’d better get a medical certificate.
6. Contact the insurance company. Otherwise, no insurance money will be paid.
7. If you need time off work due to your injury, request an employment certificate from your company to submit to the insurance company.
