[IKE20-24]【National Health Insurance Premiums may be Reduced or Exempted】
Households suffering from income drop due to COVID-19 may be eligible for a reduction/exemption of their National Health Insurance premiums.
Check your household’s eligibility and apply.

●Reduction or exemption is applied to insurance premiums which are to be paid between Feb. 2020 and March 2021.

●Households eligible for a reduction/exemption:
A:Households whose main income earner died or became seriously ill due to COVID-19.
B:Households whose main income earner had to discontinue business or has become unemployed due to COVID-19.
C:Households whose main income earner meets all of the following conditions.
① Anticipating a 30% or more drop in business/salary income in 2020 compared to 2019 due to COVID-19.
② Total income for 2019 was 10 million yen or less.
③ Amount of income other than mentioned in ① totaled 4 million yen or less in 2019.

●Amount of premium reduction/exemption:
・In case of A: Full amount of premiums during the reduction/exemption period will be exempted.
・In case of B: Full amount of premiums during the reduction/exemption period will be exempted.
・In case of C: Amount of premiums to be reduced/exempted during the reduction/exemption period will differ according to the total household income in 2019, etc.
Please check with your local municipal office for the exact amount.

●Required documents to apply for premium reduction/exemption:
You can get an application form by downloading from your municipality’s website or calling the municipal office to ask them to mail it to your home.
As for other necessary documents, please check the website of your municipality.

【Example of required documents (It may vary by municipality.)】
① Application for a reduction/exemption
② Documents showing that your income is anticipated to drop by 30% or more
③ Copy of your tax declaration form or tax withholding slip showing your income for 2019
④ In the above case of A, a death certificate or a medical certificate written by a doctor.
⑤ In the above case of B, documents showing the closure of business or the unemployment status.

●How and where to apply for premium reduction/exemption:
The application and other required documents are, in principle, to be sent by mail to the National Health Insurance Desk of the municipal office in your area.

●Application deadline : the end of March, 2021
