[IKE21-38]【Three Important Procedures for a Newborn Child of a Foreign National Family Living in Japan】
When a child is born in a family of foreign citizens, please carry out the procedures below.
① When both parents are foreign citizens -> Complete procedures A, B, and C below.
② When one of the parents is a Japanese citizen-> The child is entitled to Japanese citizenship. When the child is to obtain Japanese citizenship only, please complete procedure A below. When the child will obtain another citizenship together with Japanese citizenship, please complete procedures A and C below.

A: Submission of Notification of Birth (also referred to as the Birth Report) (Shusshou Todoke) (Submission to the Japanese municipal office)
B: Acquisition of status of residence in Japan for the child (Application to the immigration office (Immigration Services Bureau))
C: Registration with the Home Country (Embassy/Consulate)
