[IKE21-41]【What You Need to Do When Relocating】
Once you decide to move, there are things you need to do.
These procedures are also necessary when moving to another country or leaving Japan to return to your home country.

① Termination of apartment lease
If you presently live in a rented house, inform your landlord or property management company that you will move out.

② Child’s school
Inform your child’s class teacher as soon as you decide to move.

③ Procedures to have your postal mails forwarded
File a “Change of Address Notification” at the post office or submit it via the Internet.
After submission, postal mails to your old address will be forwarded to your new address.

④ Procedures related to electricity, gas, water, Internet services, etc.
Contact your electricity, gas, water and any other utility companies to inform them that you are moving.

⑤ Procedures at financial institutions
Change the address registered with your banks and credit card companies.

●Procedures at the municipal offices
Submit a “Moving Out Notification” (転出届, tenshutsu todoke) to the municipal office in the area of your present residence. This has to be done for all your family members, and can be done before you move out.
After submission, they will give you a “Moving Out Certificate” (転出証明書, tenshutsu shomeisho). Keep it to use for the moving-in procedure later.

★You can also change the address on your residence card at the municipal office. Ask them to do it along with the moving-out procedure.

The moving-in procedure needs to be completed at the municipal office in the area of your new residence within 14 days after moving in.
Submit your “Moving Out Certificate” (転出証明書) there.

★If you have a My Number Card, the address on the card needs to be changed as well.

If you have a school-age child, contact the local education board for the procedures for enrollment to a new school.

All procedures are free of charge.
Paperwork at municipal offices is very important, so be sure to complete each one.
