[IKE23-06]【Resident Tax Notice to be Received Soon】
In June, you may receive resident tax notice from your local municipal office.
Resident tax needs to be paid by everyone, including foreigners who have their residence in Japan as of January 1st and have a certain level of income.
If there is a resident tax delinquency when renewing your status of residence, application for extension of the period of stay, etc. may not be approved.
The amount of tax is determined based on the income earned from January 1st to December 31st of the previous year.

There are 2 ways to pay the resident tax.

①Deduction from wages (special collection)
A company deducts resident tax from the wages and pays the tax to the municipal offices on behalf of their employees. This is the usual procedure for company employees. If you work for a company, you don’t need to pay the resident tax individually.

②Individual Payment (general collection)
Each year around June, there is a notice (tax payment slip) sent from the municipal office requesting you to pay your resident tax. Take this slip to a financial institution and pay the required amount.

Attention is required if you quit your company or plan to leave Japan.
If you have any concerns or questions, be sure to contact your local municipal office.
