[IKE12-07]Foreign Residents’ “Juminhyo(住民票)” System
On July 9, a new resident registration system for foreign residents will begin. Non-Japanese residents will be eligible to receive a Residence Record (juminhyo) in the same way as Japanese residents.
Process for transitioning to the Residence Record
1.Within the month of May, a Provisional Resident Record is sent to each foreign resident. Your local government (city or ward office, town hall) will send the Provisional Resident Record to the address of each non-Japanese registered resident. The date of receipt of the documents will vary by location.
2.Transfer to Residence Record
The Provisional Resident Record will become the official Residence Record. Please check the details on the card. If there are no mistakes, it is not necessary to notify the municipality. In the case that the Provisional Resident Record does not arrive to you, or if there are mistakes, please inquire at your city or ward office (town hall).
For more information, please inquire at the local Kanagawa Prefecture foreign residents’ consultation center.
